Running Interval

Since I've started my February Marathon Challenge I have been running a lot more than I used to. I've came to realize the hardest part about running for me is that I get bored. Especially since I run on a treadmill. It's too cold to run outside here and I also need the daycare that the gym provides. So running in the same spot for 30-45 minutes drives me crazy. I love workouts that keep my mind working also. I work out harder and it goes by faster. One of my favorite classes that I take is kickboxing. It's a workout that will kick your ass in one hour and its over before you know it! (By the way, I'm not actually training for a marathon. This is just a goal for me to run 26.2 in 28 days.)

When I have been running lately I have been doing this interval that goes by so quick! Try it out and let me know how you like it!

Walk (3.0) - 2 minutes
Run (6.0) - 8 minutes
Sprint (8.0) - 1 minute sprints with 30 second breaks for 10 minutes. 
Sprint (8.5) - 30 second sprints with 10 second breaks for 5 minutes.
Walk (3.0) - 5 minutes

Progress Report!

As you may know, I've been on a weight loss mission to lose about 20 pounds. So far I've been pushing myself hard during workouts and trying to stay away from all of these Valentine treats that are everywhere! I've lost 4 pounds and I'm really excited because I've been doing it the right way. Even though we all subconsciously know that the best way to lose weight is to eat right and exercise, we still look for the quickest and fastest way to do it. The old me would have been frustrated that I've only lost 4 pounds and would have said 'oh well' and indulged into the sweets and treats. It's like I wanted to lose 20 pounds in a week, which we all know it not possible or healthy. But I have learned that I have to be patient. If I just eat healthy and workout then the rest will take care of itself. 

For my workouts I've been running a lot since it's part of my February Marathon Challenge. So far I'm 12 miles into this month, which I'm really proud of since I don't really like running. Although I must say that it is growing on me! I've also been doing some weight training. I take a class every Tuesday and Thursday that is just a basic weight training class. It works your whole body in one hour which I love. 

For my meals I've been just balancing them out. I try to start every morning with protein and fruit. Then for lunch and dinner I always have a protein and a vegetable. As far as carbs go, I know my body does not react well to them. So I have learned to limit myself to having a healthy carb once or twice a day, like brown rice or quinoa, instead of at all three meals. Then I try to have two very small snacks a day. And I drink lots and lots of water!

Caring for Tulips

One of my favorite flowers are tulips. They are so beautiful and are always a nice reminder that spring is right around the corner. They come in all different colors but my favorite would have to be yellow. They can brighten up any room!

With my love for flowers you would think I would have learned how to keep them alive for longer than a week, but I always killed tulips. Always. I recently did some research on how to enjoy them for while and was surprised at how simple it really is! (click on the "view post" to find out!)

Kid Friendly Pizza Croissants

My kids love to help me cook dinner. But when I'm making something like chicken or a vegetable stir fry that involves handling raw meat or cutting vegetables it's kind of hard for them to help. So I've been trying to think of more things I can make that they can help with. I recently stumbled across a recipe to make calzones but with croissants. So easy and fun for the kids that we had to try it out!

What You Will Need
Pillsbury Butter Flake Croissants
Pizza Sauce
Shredded Mozzarella Cheese

I put the fillers in little bowls to make it easier for the kids.

Tear apart the croissants and top them with sauce, cheese and pepperonis.

Then take another piece of the croissant and put it on top of the one with the cheese, sauce and pepperonis. Pinch the sides together so that its enclosed all the way around. Bake on 375 for about 7 minutes. 

Simple as that! Bon App├ętit!
